La Bégude-de-Mazenc

The village took the name of La Bégude-de-Mazenc in 1984. At the gateway to the Dieulefit region, a former stronghold of the Knights Templar, which fell to ruin in 1320, La Bégude was a stagecoach halt - Begude means "drinking place" -, and at that time was only a hamlet of Châteauneuf-de-Mazenc, the perfectly restored feudal village that sits above it.
